Madera County, CA – On the early morning of Tuesday, February 25, 2025, a 39-year-old woman from Chowchilla was killed in a two-vehicle crash at a rural intersection, according to KSEE.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5 AM at the intersection of Avenue 25 and Road 9.
Investigators say the woman was driving a gray Nissan Altima southbound on Road 9 when she allegedly failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the intersection. At the same time, a man driving a Toyota Tacoma westbound on Avenue 25 had the right-of-way. The two vehicles collided, resulting in significant damage.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced the woman dead. The driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the woman’s identity, pending notification of her family.
The intersection where the crash occurred is controlled by stop signs on Road 9, while Avenue 25 remains an open roadway. Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the collision and whether any additional factors, such as speed or visibility, contributed to the crash.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate and urges anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
Stop Sign Laws
California Law requires drivers to come to a complete stop at a Stop sign (California Vehicle Code 22450). Drivers may only enter the intersection when it appears safe for all parties to do so (California Vehicle Code 21802).
