Chris Michael Fowler, 63, of Walnut Grove Recovered from Fatal BMW Crash into Sacramento River near Twin Cities Rd

Sacramento County, CA – On the morning of Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of a body recovered from the Sacramento River as 63-year-old Walnut Grove man Chris Michael Fowler, who had been missing for three days, according to ABC10.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:30 PM on February 5 near River and Twin Cities roads.

Fowler was found inside a submerged white, two-door BMW that had crashed into the river on February 3. Witnesses reported seeing a person inside before the vehicle sank. Search teams from multiple agencies, including the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, initially struggled to locate the car due to hazardous conditions.

Authorities recovered the vehicle on February 8, finding Fowler deceased in the driver’s seat. Investigators ruled the death an accident but have not released further details regarding the cause of the crash.

Single-Vehicle Collisions and Comparative Negligence

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
