Big Rig vs SUV Crash Injures 1 at Hwy 99, Hull Rd near Yuba City in Sutter County

Sutter County, CA – On the afternoon of Tuesday, February 18, 2025, a collision south of Yuba City involving a big rig and an SUV left one man with major injuries and shut down traffic in both directions, according to CBS13.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident occurred at approximately 1:30 PM on Highway 99 near Hull Road, by the Obanion Road Shell station.

Investigators say the SUV driver, an elderly man, attempted to pull onto northbound Highway 99 from Hull Road but entered the path of an oncoming big rig hauling a loaded trailer. The truck driver was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of the SUV with considerable force, sending both vehicles careening into the southbound lanes. The impact caused the SUV and one of the truck’s trailers to overturn, scattering debris across the highway.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene quickly and transported the SUV driver to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for major injuries. The big rig driver was not injured in the crash.

The crash led to an extensive traffic backup as authorities closed both directions of Highway 99 at O’Banion Road. Southbound lanes remained closed for several hours, finally reopening around 7 PM. Northbound lanes were cleared earlier, but drivers were urged to find alternate routes while crews removed the wreckage and conducted an investigation.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash. They confirmed that neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be contributing factors and urge any witnesses to come forward with information.

Personal Injury Claims

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Liability rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. A personal injury attorney can play a crucial role in helping victims establish legal responsibility after a traffic accident.

Should evidence reveal that another party contributed to the injuries, victims may be eligible to file a personal injury claim with the responsible party’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover damages such as hospital bills and lost income during recovery.
