September 1, 2024, San Luis Obispo, CA: On Sunday evening, one person tragically lost their life in a pedestrian accident in San Luis Obispo involving a hit-and-run driver.
According to information provided by KSBY, the accident happened in the northbound lane of Highway 101 just south of the Madonna Inn area. A pedestrian was crossing traffic when he was suddenly struck by the driver of an old Toyota, who then fled the scene. A second vehicle then struck the pedestrian but the driver remained on scene.
The pedestrian, identified as a 26-year-old male, was pronounced dead on scene due to his injuries. The second driver sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene.
Police closed off the area for several hours to traffic. The road reopened around 11 p.m.
California Highway Patrol continues to search for the driver of the Toyota. Their investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
