July 28, 2024, Shandon, CA: On Sunday night, three individuals were tragically killed in a head-on collision in Shandon. According to information provided by Your Central Valley, the accident happened at 10:28 p.m. on Highway 46.
California Highway Patrol reported that the accident happened when a driver was traveling in the wrong direction on Highway 46 and collided head-on with a second vehicle. It is currently not known why the first vehicle was traveling in the wrong direction, though this is under investigation.
Four individuals from Central Valley were in the second vehicle. The driver, as well as two of the passengers, were tragically killed on-scene. The final passenger suffered major injuries and was transported to Sierra Vista Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the vehicle that was traveling in the wrong direction also sustained major injuries and was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center. A third vehicle was allegedly involved in the accident and that driver suffered from minor injuries.
Police do not believe that impairment was a factor in this crash. However, their investigation continues at this time.
