Woman Killed in Rollover Accident on Sherwood Avenue in Bakersfield

High-Speed Rollover on Sherwood Avenue Bakersfield Takes Life of Passenger

On Saturday, a high-speed rollover took the life of a victim in Bakersfield. According to information provided by KGET, the accident happened at 8:20 p.m. on Sherwood Avenue near the area of Highway 99 on the night of May 11, 2024.

California Highway Patrol responded to the scene that night, where they discovered that a vehicle left the roadway when the driver was traveling at high speeds. The driver was traveling northbound on the highway in an Infiniti sedan at high speeds when they suddenly lost control, causing their vehicle to veer onto the right shoulder. The vehicle then left the road, colliding with an embankment. It then overturned several times and came to rest on its roof.

Paramedics were called to the scene where they discovered the 17-year-old driver with major injuries. The driver was taken to Kern Medical for treatment. The passenger, identified as a 21-year-old woman, was ejected from the vehicle and transported to Adventist Health Delano with serious injuries. She was tragically pronounced dead while there.

Police confirmed that the 17-year-old driver has since been arrested for vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, and not driving with a valid driver’s license.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident remains ongoing.
