California Highway Patrol responded to the scene immediately, where they discovered that two vehicles were involved in a collision on Highway 178 around the area of Doyle Ranch. A driver and passenger were in a Subaru traveling eastbound on the highway, while a driver and a passenger were also in a Toyota headed westbound. The two vehicles collided head-on with each other due to reasons that are not entirely known.
Paramedics were immediately dispatched to the scene to help. The driver of the Subaru, identified only as a 42-year-old man, was tragically killed in the accident. The driver of the Toyota, as well as both passengers, were severely injured and rushed to local hospitals for treatment as well.
