One person lost their life in a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred in Salinas on Monday night. According to information provided by Kion 46 News Channel, the accident happened around 10:50 p.m. on Highway 101 around the area of Boronda Road on the night of March 4, 2024.
California Highway Patrol confirmed that a 73-year-old man was driving in the number one lane of Highway 101 in his black Volvo with a light-colored vehicle behind him. The driver of the Volvo attempted to swerve out of the way of a pedestrian walking in the area but, unfortunately, struck them. The driver behind the Volvo was unable to avoid striking it from behind but then fled the scene. The driver who struck the pedestrian did remain on scene after the collision.
Several local responders were called to the scene to help. The pedestrian was tragically pronounced dead on scene due to their injuries. Nobody else was hurt as a result.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
