California Highway Patrol confirmed that a 39-year-old man was traveling near the intersection when he started to make an unsafe turn onto Roberts Lane. His vehicle’s tire struck a curb, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle overturned forcefully as a result.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other Bakersfield responders were called to the scene to help. A passenger in the vehicle, identified only as a 53-year-old woman, was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. She was tragically pronounced dead on scene at 9:30 p.m. The driver was sent to Kern Medical for treatment of minor injuries and is expected to be okay.
A large portion of the road was blocked following the accident. Police worked to clear the scene quickly.
