Only a few minutes after this accident, an officer blocked traffic in the area to help clear the scene. A DUI suspect approached the area and crashed into the back of a patrol vehicle, pushing the cruiser into the officer on the side of the road.
Paramedics and fire crews rushed to the scene to help those involved in the accident. The female pedestrian who was initially struck was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to the extent of her injuries. The officer who was struck on the side of the road was rushed to the hospital but is expected to recover from his injuries.
Police confirmed that the driver suspected of driving under the influence was taken into police custody. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
