Travel along rural Madera County roads can be treacherous at night. There’s less traffic, but drivers can become more careless and unfocused after the sun goes down. There’s also the increased risk of encountering an impaired driver at night.
A driver who has consumed drugs or alcohol will have a hard time staying in the correct lane, and even staying on the road at all. Sadly, other drivers will have a difficult time differentiating between safe motorists and motorists who have made reckless decisions until it’s too late.
Head-On Collision in Madera County Claims One Life and Injures One Victim
A head-on impact just north of Madera claimed one life early Monday morning. According to KFSN-TV, the accident occurred on Ellis Street in the Madera Acres community on July 10, 2023.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene near Fairview Street sometime before 4 a.m. They determined that a man who was driving a black Chevy pickup truck going east somehow wound up in the westbound lanes. It was there that the pickup struck a Chevy Malibu car head-on.
Tragically, the woman driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken by helicopter to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. His condition hasn’t been released.
The California Highway Patrol continues to examine the circumstances surrounding this devastating crash. Investigators have obtained a warrant to perform a blood alcohol test on the driver of the truck to determine if DUI charges are in order.
Help Secured for Families After a Madera County Accident
Families who have lost a loved one in a devastating Madera County accident can face difficult financial hardships soon after a collision. The bills for a funeral and burial and ambulance services can come due in just a few weeks. The mourning family might also be left without the income a family member had always provided a spouse, children, and grandchildren.
A wrongful death claim may be filed by the family to secure financial support to pay these bills and to provide protection for close relatives in the coming years.
When an accident involves a DUI charge, families don’t have to wait on the criminal proceedings for the suspect in order to file a wrongful death civil claim. This claim can be filed on behalf of the family as soon as they are ready. The civil claim is settled separately from the criminal charges so that families get the support they need to rebuild their lives after a tragedy.
