Oncoming Driver Dangers on San Juan Road in Monterey County CA

Rural roads in Monterey County often see only light traffic in the early morning hours. That’s why even cautious drivers can be completely surprised when suddenly seeing oncoming headlights veer into their path. Drivers may have little time to react and steer out of the way of a careless motorist.

A collision involving a head-on impact can be extremely dangerous for the occupants of the vehicles involved. The speeds of both vehicles will contribute to the force of the crash and make it more likely that victims suffer serious and life-threatening injuries.

Van Collision Near Aromas Claims One Life and Injures Other Occupants

A man lost his life after a two-vehicle crash in northern Monterey County on Wednesday Morning. KRON-TV reported the devastating accident happened along San Juan Road between Aromas and Watsonville on June 14, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene near the intersection of Murphy Road sometime after 5:18 a.m. They found that two vans had collided head-on. Investigators determined that the driver of a Chrysler Town and Country Van traveling eastbound crossed the double yellow lines for an unknown reason and struck an oncoming Chevrolet Express Van.

The collision claimed the life of the driver behind the wheel of the Chrysler van. The victim was identified as a 67-year-old man from Salinas. There were 13 people in the Chevrolet van. The driver was transported to a local hospital with what were thought to be major injuries. A passenger in that van was also injured.

The California Highway Patrol continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.

Support for Victims and Families After a Major Monterey County Accident

For families who have lost a loved one, a wrongful death claim filed against the at-fault driver’s insurance provider may become necessary. Close relatives may be left with the costs of a funeral and emergency response fees over an accident that wasn’t their loved one’s fault.

A car insurance company should be completely liable for these expenses and more. The family left behind will often need financial support in the future, as the income the deceased had always provided is no longer available.

Those suffering serious injuries in frightening accidents must often deal with difficult and expensive recoveries. Surviving victims or their family members are encouraged to file an injury claim against an at-fault driver’s insurance provider. This civil claim seeks to secure compensation for all medical costs a recovery leaves behind. It also must provide support for victims in the weeks ahead while they are unable to go to work and earn a paycheck.
