San Jose Police responded to the scene near the intersection of Live Oak Road. They say that a man driving a Dodge Durango was traveling at a high rate of speed in the southbound lanes of the highway when it sideswiped a Lexus Sedan. The Dodge SUV then rear-ended a Hyundai pushing the car into a Chevy pickup truck. The truck collided with a Toyota car. In all, five vehicles were involved in the frightening crash.
The woman driving the Hyundai suffered major injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. She tragically died the next day, on May 23, 2023. Amazingly, no other drivers or passengers were hurt.
San Jose Police continue to examine the circumstances leading up to the multi-vehicle collision. Investigators report that this is the 17th fatal traffic collision in San Jose for the year.
