A motorcyclist was tragically killed after he was struck by a driver who ran a red light in northern Bakersfield over the weekend. According to KGET-TV, the accident occurred at the intersection of State Road and Airport Drive on Sunday morning May 28, 2023.
Bakersfield police responded to the scene at around 11:15 a.m. to find the victim down on the pavement. They say the motorcyclist was going westbound on State Road when he was hit by a driver on Airport Drive who didn’t stop for a red light.
The man on the motorcycle was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver involved in the fatal collision remained on the scene to cooperate with investigators. It is not believed that drugs or alcohol played a role in what happened.
