Wrong-way drivers can put unsuspecting motorists in immediate danger at any time of the day or night. Even focused drivers may not realize another vehicle is traveling against traffic until there’s little time or room left to avoid a devastating collision.
Drivers and passengers can suffer broken bones, Traumatic Brain Injuries, and other internal wounds. In the worst cases, the force of a head-on collision can leave victims fighting for their lives in a hospital.
Wrong-Way Driver in Orcutt Causes Deadly Collision
A man was killed and a woman suffered major injuries after an accident involving a wrong-way driver in Orcutt Monday evening. KSBY-TV reported that that collision occurred along Highway 135 on April 3, 2023.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene sometime after 6:49 p.m. Investigators say that a man had been driving the wrong direction in the northbound lanes. A crash occurred near the Clark Avenue exit.
Santa Barbara Fire Department officials confirmed that the wrong-way driver was killed in the collision that resulted. A woman in another vehicle was injured and rushed to a local hospital. She was said to be in critical condition.
Both lanes of the northbound side of the highway were blocked by the two vehicles involved. The California Highway Patrol continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Finding Assistance for Wrong-Way Driver Accident Victims and Their Families
Driving the wrong way on a major highway can put many drivers and passengers in danger at once. Families may get word that a precious loved one has been taken from them in a collision and be given little time to mourn before they face several bills resulting from the accident.
Funeral costs and ambulance fees can all come due just as a family is having to deal with the loss of the financial support the deceased had always provided through his or her job. The family must also learn to cope with life without the emotional support the loved one would have continued to provide.
A family can seek justice in a tragic collision by filing a wrongful death claim to protect the future of those left behind. The at-fault driver’s insurance company can be called upon to provide money for costs the family has endured and any future emotional and financial hardships expected in the years to come.
For surviving victims, a claim for damages can be filed against drivers responsible for wrong-way accidents. Hospital care and future rehabilitation costs are covered by the driver’s insurance policy. Medical equipment can also be paid for. The insurance company should also be called upon to provide compensation for the victim’s missed time at work and lost benefits.
