Pedestrian Accident Dangers on Chester Ave in Bakersfield

Careless Bakersfield drivers often pay little attention to the pedestrians who travel the city. This lack of attention becomes all the more dangerous at night, when motorists have to watch the lanes and sidewalks even closer for those on foot.

Drivers are supposed to slow down at the sight of a defenseless pedestrian, no matter where they encounter them. Once an accident has occurred, drivers should never leave the scene. They need to report the collision immediately so the victim gets medical attention as fast as possible. At-fault drivers would also need to provide car insurance information to make sure financial assistance reaches victims and their families.

Pedestrian Killed in Tragic Collision in Southern Bakersfield

A man tragically lost his life Thursday night after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Bakersfield. KGET-TV reported the accident occurred along Chester Avenue near the intersection of M Street on March 23, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene sometime around 8 p.m. Emergency responders discovered the victim lying in the southbound lanes near a Family Dollar location. The victim was suffering from major injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses said the man was struck by a driver in a dark grey Mazda sedan who then fled the scene. The car was last seen heading south on Chester Avenue.

Investigators were provided with a possible license plate number of the car. They also found parts of the dark grey vehicle at the scene. The investigation continues into this hit-and-run incident.

Seeking Financial Assistance for Families After a Tragic Pedestrian Accident

After a hit-and-run tragedy, families can wonder how victims can receive justice. Fortunately, loved ones can receive help with the expensive bills they may receive in the aftermath of a pedestrian accident. Family members can earn support even if a hit-and-run suspect remains unidentified.

When a suspect remains at large, families may be able to call upon their own car insurance policy. The victim may have had uninsured motorist coverage that could help out the family financially at such a difficult time. If the victim did not carry car insurance, he or she may have been covered by a family member’s policy.

This claim would assist families with burial costs and with leftover medical fees. Close relatives should also receive help in replacing the income the deceased can no longer provide in the future.

When a suspect is apprehended, a wrongful death claim can be filed against the driver’s auto insurance company. A hit-and-run driver will be facing criminal charges, but the family’s wrongful death civil claim can proceed, even if a criminal trial hasn’t begun.
