Long, rural stretches of highway in Tuolumne County can be dangerous for even safe motorists. As the miles go by, drivers can be lost in thought or become drowsy. They may not be alert enough to notice they’ve veered across the center lines and into oncoming traffic.

One Victim Tragically Killed in Tow-Truck Accident in Tuolumne County

A devastating collision involving a tow truck and another vehicle caused at least one fatality between Knights Ferry and Jamestown Thursday morning. The Modesto Bee reported the accident occurred along Highway 108/120 near Rushing Hill Lookout Road on March 16, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene sometime after 9:15 a.m. They determined that a westbound tow truck collided head-on with another vehicle. The driver of the tow truck was found outside of the vehicle.

The incident summary report said that at least one person was killed in the accident. It is unclear if there were other injuries associated with the crash. One victim was flown to a Modesto hospital.

Traffic was closed on the highway in both directions while emergency crews tended to victims and investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Support for Victims and Families After a Tuolumne County Accident

For family members left behind after a tragic accident, a wrongful death claim filed against an at-fault driver’s insurance company may be necessary. Close relatives will face the costs of a funeral, and ambulance fees, and could quickly find themselves in financial trouble.

A wrongful death claim is filed by a spouse, children of the victim, or sometimes the parents of the victim on behalf of the entire family. This lawsuit also seeks to earn financial support for the years to come as the family copes with the loss of the emotional care and income the loved one can no longer provide.

Surviving victims of frightening accidents must often deal with long and difficult recoveries. A claim for damages can be filed against an insurance company in order to shield the victim from hospital and doctor expenses. The claim also demands reimbursement for the time at work the victim has lost.
