Pedestrian Accident Hazards on South Union Avenue in Bakersfield CA

Pedestrians in Bakersfield don’t always have adequate crosswalks and pedestrian bridges provided to protect their safety as they travel. They can be forced to travel a half mile or more just to find an intersection with a crosswalk.

This difficulty and the vulnerability of a pedestrian in a vehicle accident are why drivers are legally required to show a special “duty of care” to anyone on foot in any location. Drivers must constantly monitor the streets for any sign of a pedestrian. They must slow down as much as needed to make sure a strike on a defenseless is impossible.

Drivers can also think that because a pedestrian was wearing dark clothing they aren’t responsible for a collision. That duty of care still applies. Motorists and their car insurance providers can be asked to provide support to pedestrian victims and their families.

Woman Killed in Collision with Pick-Up Truck in Bakersfield Pedestrian Accident

A woman tragically lost her life while she was walking near the Kern County Fairgrounds in southeast Bakersfield. KGET-TV reported the Tuesday evening accident occurred at the intersection of South Union Avenue and Adams Street on February 7, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene sometime before 7 p.m. They determined that a 35-year-old woman had been struck by a Dodge Ram pick-up truck that had been traveling northbound on Union Avenue.

Sadly, the woman was pronounced dead on the scene. Her identity had not been released as of the last update.

The 26-year-old driver in the truck remained on the scene to answer questions from investigators. CHP officers do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in what happened.

Support for Families After a Tragic Bakersfield Pedestrian Accident

Families can receive word they’ve lost a loved one in a pedestrian accident and soon face the financial consequences of such a tragedy. Burial costs and ambulance fees can come due and leave close relatives confronting an economic crisis. These bills arise just as a family may be losing the steady income a spouse or a father or mother had always provided.

The family should seek to protect themselves in the present and in the years to come on behalf of all close relatives. They may file a wrongful death claim to receive support to cover these costs and seek reimbursement for the love and financial support they’ve been robbed of in the years to come.

Drivers can be found liable in a tragic accident even if a pedestrian was struck outside of a crosswalk. This support comes from the at-fault driver’s auto insurance provider to help the family recover financially during such a difficult time.
