Liability in Hit-And-Run Motorcycle Collisions on Belmont Ave in Fresno

It’s hard to accept that something as simple as a left-hand turn or a U-turn can pose such a threat to motorcyclists in Fresno. And yet careless drivers can endanger dozens of local motorcyclists a day. It’s far too common for a motorist to look for a break in approaching cars to make a turn and yet miss a motorcyclist traveling straight for them. The driver can proceed with an ill-advised turn and leave a rider traveling full speed with little room or space to steer out of an impact.

These devastating collisions might leave motorcyclists facing an impact with a vehicle and then a second impact with the roadway. The victim can even be left at risk of being struck by other drivers who don’t see them. This is a factor in many motorcycle hit-and-run cases when drivers don’t call 911 immediately to get the injured victim help.

Motorcyclist Badly Injured in Weekend Hit-and-Run With SUV in Fresno

A motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital after a Saturday afternoon hit-and-run crash in western Fresno. KSEE-TV reported the tragic accident took place around 3:30 p.m. on Belmont Avenue at the intersection of Hughes Avenue on January 21, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol determined that an SUV pulling a trailer westbound on Belmont Avenue made a U-turn in front of an oncoming motorcyclist. The rider was unable to avoid a collision with the SUV.

When officers arrived, they found the victim laying in the roadway unconscious and breathing. He was transported to the hospital with what were described as major injuries.

Investigators say the black SUV pulling the trailer did not stay at the scene. They continue to search for the driver and the driver’s vehicle. If you have any information about this accident or the driver involved, you are asked to call the California Highway Patrol Fresno Area Office at (559) 705-2200.

Support for Victims After Fresno Motorcycle Hit-And-Run Accidents

Victims forced into dangerous collisions can face long recoveries from injuries. A crash might leave a motorcycle rider with broken bones, deep cuts, brain trauma, and spine and back damage. The recovery costs might quickly reach well over a thousand dollars if not tens of thousands of dollars.

Victims should never be expected to cover these costs when a reckless driver is to blame. Victims and their close loved ones can file an injury claim against the at-fault driver’s car insurance company. This civil claim secures support for hospital bills, emergency response fees, and the lost wages suffered during recovery. The emotional trauma experienced while a rider is unable to get back on a motorcycle should also earn additional compensation for victims as they heal.

In the case of a hit-and-run driver that is never identified, victims and their families can still seek compensation. A Fresno motorcycle accident lawyer would file a claim against the victim’s own motorcycle accident insurance calling upon the policy’s uninsured motorist coverage.
