Pedestrians in Bakersfield can find obstacles to their travel along every city street. Proper crosswalks may be a mile or more apart. Intersections with crosswalks are also often marked off with faded lines obscured by tire marks.
Unfortunately, the biggest threat to those on foot is the careless and reckless drivers who travel Bakersfield roads day and night. They can be looking anywhere but the road when they come upon a vulnerable pedestrian and cause a frightening collision.
The accident becomes even more thoughtless when a driver decides to flee the scene to leave the victim waiting longer on life-saving care.
Weekend Hit-And-Run Crash Tragically Kills Woman in Bakersfield
Police are looking for a hit-and-run suspect after a woman was struck and killed southeast of downtown Bakersfield on Saturday night. KGET-TV reports the accident occurred sometime before 9:45 p.m. along Union Avenue near E. 5th Street on August 20, 2022.
Bakersfield police say they found a woman in the roadway suffering from major injuries. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and vehicle involved in the accident did not stay on the scene. The driver fled the scene in what’s only been described as a dark sedan.
The investigation into the hit-and-run tragedy continues. Bakersfield Police investigators ask anyone who has information about the accident to call them.
Support for Families After Bakersfield Pedestrian Accident Victims
Families who have lost a loved one to a tragic Bakersfield pedestrian collision can request help through a wrongful death claim. This claim would seek help with funeral costs and in replacing the income a deceased family member can no longer provide.
The process is easier if the hit-and-run driver is identified and a claim can be filed against the driver’s car insurance provider. Yet, even when a driver escapes justice and is not caught, families may still hope to seek financial assistance.
Families may file a claim against any car insurance policy the deceased was covered by. If the victim did not have vehicle insurance, it’s possible the deceased may have been covered by a family member’s policy. This claim would seek benefits to protect the family by calling upon the policy’s uninsured driver coverage.
