Accidents Involving Cars Between Two Big Rigs on Hwy 99 in Merced County CA

Motorists who commonly use Highway 99 through Merced County, Stanislaus County, and Modesto know the dangers careless truck drivers can pose. Drivers in smaller cars will face many large trucks on every journey.

They may see these giant vehicles in front of them and in the rear-view mirror. A careless mistake by one of these truck drivers can, of course, cause devastating crashes. The weight and shape of these trucks can lead to major damage to cars and leave victims underneath raised tankers and trailers. A rescue may be necessary before medical care can be administered.

Accident Traps Car’s Driver Between Two Big Rigs in Merced County

A frightening collision involving two semi-trucks and a car sent one man to the hospital Thursday morning. The Merced Sun-Star reports the accident occurred around 7:50 a.m. along Highway 99 near Atwater on March 10, 2022.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene in the southbound lanes, north of the Atwater Boulevard off-ramp. They determined a big rig carrying sulfuric acid was slowing for traffic when another big rig approaching from behind hit a Mercedes sedan to send it into the back of the first truck.

The Mercedes was left wedged between the two trucks. The driver, a 42-year-old man from Modesto, was extricated after 30 minutes and flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. The victim was said to be suffering from moderate injuries.

The truck carrying sulfuric acid had a minor leak, but the leak was quickly repaired. CHP investigators don’t believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the accident.

Seeking Assistance for Truck Accident Victims on Hwy 99

Victims of frightening accidents should be able to focus on healing and not be left alone to worry over the extreme costs of medical care. To keep California accident victims from suffering unfair financial hardships over an accident that wasn’t their fault, they are encouraged to file a claim for damages against an at-fault truck driver’s insurance provider.

This civil claim, filed by the victim or his or her family, will ask the insurance company for assistance with hospital bills that are due now and any bills received in the future. A claim can also list and ask for help in making up lost paychecks while the victim has had to be out of work.

When professional truck drivers are involved, victims might also be able to file claims against the driver’s employers. A case against a trucking company could help make sure victims receive enough settlement support to fully pay all of their medical expenses.
