Accidents Involving Head-On Collisions Along Hwy 154 In Santa Barbara County CA

Busy, two-lane highways in Santa Barbara County offer little protection for motorists as they pass by vehicles in opposing lanes. Drivers can exceed safe speeds or become careless and end up losing control, only to wind up in the path of oncoming cars.

With only a double yellow line and a few feet of pavement separating vehicles, devastating head-on accidents are far too common. The speeds of both cars factor into these sorts of impacts to do even more harm to victims than in any other type of collision.

Drivers Suffer Major Injuries in Santa Barbara County Head-On Crash

A devastating head-on collision in Santa Barbara County sent two people to the hospital Wednesday evening. Noozhawk reports the accident took place along Highway 154, west of Foxen Canyon Road on February 2, 2022.

The California Highway Patrol and the Santa Barbara County Fire Department were called to the scene west of Los Olivos at around 6:30 p.m. Investigators say that a driver from Lompoc in a Pontiac Grand Prix was traveling westbound when the vehicle drifted into the opposing lane of traffic. Investigators suspect the Pontiac was traveling at a high rate of speed when it collided head-on with a Honda Civic, driven by a Santa Barbara man.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles. They were airlifted to The Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with critical injuries. Their latest conditions have not been released.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the frightening crash.

Support for Victims and Families After a Santa Barbara County Accident

Victims in serious accidents can face long, difficult recoveries. These recoveries can also be very expensive and the families of victims can be unfairly burdened with trying to pay off enormous hospital bills.

California allows victims in such a difficult situation to file a claim for damages against an at-fault driver’s car insurance provider. A family member can also file this civil claim on behalf of victims.

The claim asks the insurance company for support for all medical bills a victim faces now and those possible in the future. This claim would also seek to replace the wages a victim has missed out on while being out of work.
