Bicycle Accidents Along Union Avenue in Bakersfield CA

Bicyclists traveling Bakersfield must often proceed with the rush of traffic on all sides. Some parts of the city don’t offer a lot of bike lanes or greenways and make options for a safe ride much harder to find.

Careless drivers are another hazard that makes bicycling in Bakersfield a sometimes dangerous activity. Drivers must monitor mirrors, blind spots, and, of course, out their front windshields for any bicyclist who may travel nearby.

This is a “duty of care” that should be extended to any defenseless pedestrian or rider, no matter where and when they travel. It’s this extra caution taken when behind the wheel that can keep bicyclists from being part of devastating collisions and being seriously injured.

Bicyclist Injured After Getting Hit by a Vehicle in Bakersfield

A man traveling by bicycle was badly injured after he was struck by a vehicle in East Bakersfield Tuesday afternoon. KGET-TV reported the accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. along Union Avenue at the intersection of 19th Street on August 10, 2021.

The Bakersfield Police Department says the bicyclist was crossing the street westbound when he was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound. The victim suffered major injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

The woman driving the vehicle involved stopped to cooperate with Bakersfield Police Department investigators. Bakersfield Police don’t believe drugs or alcohol played a part in the collision.

Support for Bicycling Accident Victims in Bakersfield

Bicyclists do their best to remain safe when they must proceed alongside much bigger cars, trucks, and SUVs. Those harrowing rides can end in a serious crash and lead to a long, difficult recovery for victims.

Injured bicyclists deserve the best care available in order to get them back on their bikes and riding pain-free as soon as possible. Unfortunately, medical care can cost thousands of dollars and quickly send a victim and his or her family into bankruptcy.

In these difficult circumstances, victims and their families are allowed to file a claim for damages against an at-fault driver’s car insurance provider. This claim can provide money for hospital bills and replace the wages a victim loses while being out of work.

Support is available for victims even if they are found to be partially at fault in an accident. In California, a driver and a bicyclist can share the blame in an accident. Victims can still secure a substantial amount of compensation to help with their recovery costs.
