Deadly Accidents Involving Head-On Collisions in Ventura County CA

A driver’s mistake on a highway can quickly involve multiple vehicles and lead to devastating consequences for the drivers and passengers involved. With four-lane traffic moving in opposite directions at highway speeds and vehicles separated by only a few feet, the risks of a dangerous head-on collision will always be dangerously high.

The often severe outcomes of head-on collisions are seen every year across Ventura County. In 2019, the county recorded 223 accidents involving a frontal impact. Those accidents tragically claimed five lives and left 373 people injured.

Two Drivers Tragically Killed in a Ventura County Crash

An accident involving three vehicles claimed two lives and injured several victims on Sunday Afternoon in Ventura County. According to the Ventura County Star, the accident occurred around 2:35 p.m. on Highway 126 near Spalding Drive west of Fillmore on February 21, 2021.

The California Highway Patrol says the incident began as a BMW driven by a 27-year-old Oxnard man crossed over a double-yellow line into oncoming traffic. The BMW struck a two-seat subcompact car head-on. The driver of the subcompact car, a 34-year-old woman from Fowler, lost her life in the collision. Her passenger, a 25-year-old Fresno man was hospitalized with major injuries. The driver of the BMW was also killed.

The BMW continued on to strike a Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck. Two people inside were treated for minor injuries on the scene. The investigation into what led to the crash continues.

Support for Ventura County Accident Victims and Families

For those injured in a highway accident, the focus should, of course, be on physical wellbeing and recovery. The medical treatment and therapy for a serious injury could easily cost tens of thousands of dollars, but those costs should never be the worry of a victim or his or her family. The at-fault driver’s insurance company should be called upon to pay for all care needed in the present, and any care, rehabilitation, surgery, and medical equipment needed in the future.

Victims can file a claim for damages against the insurance coverage to make sure lost wages at work are also covered, along with travel costs. Emotional suffering for the victim and his or her family can also factor into compensation amounts.

In the case of a family who has tragically lost a loved one, a wrongful death claim can be filed against an at-fault driver’s insurance provider. This civil lawsuit can help stabilize the family financially and help them find some justice after such a terrible mistake. A wrongful death claim can help pay for things like ambulance and rescue fees and a funeral. The lawsuit can also replace the lost wages the victim would have continued to provide family members in the years to come.
