Bicycle And Car Accidents On Jensen Avenue in Fresno CA

Some accidents on Fresno roads leave victims able to recover and eventually start to rebuild their lives, but when high speeds play a factor the consequences can quickly escalate. Speeding drivers show a lack of care towards other motorists as well as pedestrians and bicyclists who might also be using the streets. Their recklessness can cause them to lose control of their vehicles and leave them unable to avoid a terrible collision.

Fresno’s emergency responders see enough of these accidents in the city each year to average around one collision a day involving a speeding driver. In 2019, Fresno recorded 382 accidents involving unsafe speeds. Those collisions resulted in a heartbreaking five people killed and left almost 600 people suffering from injuries.

Bicyclist Killed by Speeding Driver in Southwest Fresno

An accident involving two vehicles and a bicycle cost two people their lives and left a driver injured Wednesday morning. The Fresno Bee reports the accident happened around 5:45 a.m. at West Jensen Avenue and South Martin Luther King Boulevard on February 11, 2021.

Fresno Police say a Honda driven by a 20-year-old Fresno man was traveling eastbound on Jensen and was speeding when he struck a 45-year-old man from Fresno on a bicycle. The bicyclist tragically lost his life.

The driver of the Honda continued on to hit a Toyota that was on Martin Luther King. The impact spun the Honda into a utility pole, killing the driver. The driver of the Toyota suffered injuries in the collision.

Investigators say the 20-year-old driver in the Honda was responsible for both collisions. They are trying to determine if drugs or alcohol played a part in the accident.

Help for Fresno Accident Victims

Accidents can result in a long recovery for surviving victims and for those who have lost their lives, families will be left behind to try to continue on in the face of such a tragedy.

When families have lost a loved one to a careless driver, it can be hard to imagine how justice can be found. In these difficult circumstances, close relatives are permitted to file a wrongful death claim against an at-fault driver and his or her insurance provider. In cases where the driver to blame didn’t survive a crash, the insurance company can still be called upon to provide financial help for family members.

A wrongful death claim can seek to stabilize the family and protect them from the costs of ambulance fees, funeral and burial expenses, and other costs associated with settling a victim’s estate. The tragedy of losing the emotional and financial support the victim would have provided a spouse, children, and other family members in the years to come can also factor into a claim.

For surviving victims of a frightening crash, a claim for damages can be filed against a responsible driver’s insurance coverage. This claim can earn compensation for every medical expense and provide for a victim down the road for any medical care needed in the future and any time lost from work.
