Central Fresno Hit-And-Run Accidents

A poor decision at the wheel can devastate so many lives. The choice to consume alcohol or drugs and then get out on the road is a dangerous act and can lead to a frightening collision that can change the course of a life. The circumstances become that more tragic when the driver responsible then chooses to leave the scene of the accident in an attempt to avoid the consequences.

California residents often see the costly and painful effects of hit-and-run drivers more than any residents of any other state. As recently as 2016, California had more hit-and-run accident fatalities than any other place in the U.S. The Daily Republic reports the year saw 337 accidents involving at least one fatality.

The severe consequences possible in any accident makes a reckless choice behind the wheel that much more indefensible.

Central Fresno Three Vehicle Hit-And-Run Accident

A driver collided with two other vehicles in Fresno leaving at least two people injured on Thursday morning. The Fresno Bee reported the accident happened on East Ashlan Avenue near North Blackstone Avenue around 11 a.m. on October 22, 2020.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) says that a hit-and-run suspect first slammed into a pickup truck pulling a trailer and then struck a Honda. An occupant in the Honda was injured.

The hit-and-run suspect was also injured when his car flipped, but the CHP says the 37-year-old man still managed to run from the scene. He was taken into custody a short time later and taken to the hospital. Investigators say the man faces felony hit-and-run charges and possible charges for driving under the influence.

Compensation for Hit-And-Run Accident Victims in Fresno

Victims hurt in hit-and-run accidents will first want to know that they will be able to recover from their injuries. Then they may begin to stress over the costs of that recovery and wonder if anyone will be around to help with the financial burden. The victim isn’t to blame for the collision that caused his or her injuries and the high cost of medical bills and lost hours at work shouldn’t be his or her responsibility.

The news that a hit-and-run driver has been apprehended will come as welcome relief to the victims of the driver’s mistakes. Victims will be allowed to move forward with a civil lawsuit against the at-fault driver even as the suspect at the same time faces criminal charges. The civil claim for damages can proceed even if the criminal trial hasn’t begun.

The victim’s claim will hopefully recover the costs of medical expenses from the driver’s insurance company. Lost paychecks from missed time at work now and any lost time expected in the future can also be provided for. A claim can also compensate victims in cases where extreme pain and emotional anguish are involved.

Civil lawsuits are almost always settled out of court. Claims get settled before they reach trial nearly 90% of the time. The responsible driver’s insurance company will likely make victims a settlement offer to avoid legal proceedings. An attorney working for the victim can determine if that offer is fair for what has been endured.
