Fatal Motorcycle Accidents In Clovis

Motorcyclists can do their best to stay out of the path other vehicles, but careless drivers in cars, SUVs, and trucks can make those collisions inevitable, even for the most experienced rider.

The consequences of distracted drivers are seen by the California Highway Patrol every year.  They reported 566 motorcycle fatalities in 2017. Of those tragic deaths, 103 were from the 15-23 age group.

The threats are there any time of day and anywhere a motorcyclist rides. No matter the age and experience of the rider, the biggest and most unpredictable hazard on the road will always be other drivers who don’t bother to take a second glance when they make a move.

Protecting the Family After a Motorcycle Collision

Motorcycle accidents can lead to tragic outcomes when a much larger truck or SUV is involved. A bad decision by a distracted driver can put an unprotected rider in harm’s way and severe injury and the loss of life can be the result.

A family who loses a loved one may have to act to protect those left behind. A spouse, children, and parents will lose the emotional support a family member provides while also finding the financial support the victim provided through his or her job is no longer there.

When hospital bills, funeral costs, and daily cost-of-living expenses build-up, the family of the deceased victim can file a wrongful death claim to hold the at-fault driver responsible for some of these losses. A representative for the family, such as a spouse, domestic partner, an adult child, or a parent can file this civil suit against the driver’s insurance company. An attorney can also represent the family in this claim.

If the claim is successful through a settlement or in a court decision, financial restitution will be made. The compensation can even include the loss of emotional and financial support victims would have provided the family in the years to come had they lived.
