Distracted drivers seem to be able to miss seeing motorcycles right in front of them no matter the time of day. Accidents happen in broad daylight and even overnight with headlights clearly announcing every rider on the road.
Drivers can fail to notice a rider and not even slow down just before a collision. The motorcyclist can wake-up with injuries and realize, in the case of a hit-and-run, the driver didn’t care enough to stay on the scene and take responsibility for his or her actions.
Motorcyclist Injured in Fresno County Rear-End Crash
A man on a motorcycle was sent to the hospital after a hit-and-run crash in Fresno County Monday morning. ABC30-TV reported the collision happened near the intersection of Jensen and Brawley Avenues around 530 am on August 31, 2020.
The California Highway Patrol says the motorcyclist was injured when a pick-up truck rear-ended his motorcycle. The rider, in his 70s, was rushed to a local hospital with major injuries.
The driver of the pick-up truck left the scene of the accident and has not been identified. Investigators believe the suspect was driving a white Ford F-150. Witnesses spotted the truck driving away after the collision.
Finding Justice After a Motorcycle Hit-And-Run Accident
Motorcycle accidents can leave a rider with severe and life-changing injuries. Those injuries can require surgery, rehabilitation, and a lifetime of treatment. The medical bills can be extremely expensive. Immediately after an accident, a rider may be unable to return to work for weeks, missing out on a steady paycheck. A life-long motorcyclist may not even be able to get back on his or her bike for months to come.
The best-case scenario is that the driver who caused this accident is eventually identified and arrested. The victims and their families can finally seek justice and get help with their bills and financial losses. A claim for damages can be filed against the at-fault driver.
A hit-and-run driver is also likely going to be facing a criminal trial as well. However, the victim doesn’t have to wait to file a claim for damages against the driver’s insurance company. The civil lawsuit and claim can move forward even if the criminal side of the proceedings hasn’t wrapped up.
If the guilty driver is, unfortunately, never found, the motorcycle accident victim can still file a claim to get help with physical, emotional, and financial damages. The claim for damages would be filed with the victim’s own insurance company under the coverage for uninsured/underinsured motorists. Most every policy includes this coverage unless the policy holder declines it in writing.
It’s important to remember that even though this is a claim with the victim’s own insurance company the process may still be difficult. The victim’s insurance company may treat their own customer like the enemy and seek to weaken the claim for damages. The insurance company wants to pay victims as little as possible for their injuries and financial hardships. A local attorney can help in these cases by holding the victim’s insurance agents accountable and forcing them to pay out full compensation.
