Deadly Accidents in Orange Cove

When roads meet and traffic from different directions is brought together the chances of a traffic accident rise significantly.  Intersections are one of the most dangerous points on any street or highway.  Confusion on who should go next and where they should go can put cars in the path of other drivers.

Distracted drivers can only add to the risk at intersections.  A second look or a reduction of speed can often help drivers steer clear of collisions in these situations.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that intersections were the site of around 40% of all crashes in a single year in the U.S. These collisions can leave a driver with injuries and in the worst cases cause a loss of life.

Orange Cove Deadly Two-Car Collision

A man was killed in Fresno County after two cars collided in an intersection on Thursday afternoon, August 7, 2020. The Sacramento Bee reported the accident happened around 5 pm where Jacobs Avenue and Manning Avenue meet.

The California Highway Patrol found the driver of a black car traveled through the intersection near Orange Cove without seeing a silver honda coming.  The Honda struck the car’s driver’s side door.

Both cars then ran into a utility pole and the black car caught fire.  The driver of the black car was pronounced dead on the scene.  The driver of the Honda was taken to the hospital.

Compensation in an Accident at an Intersection

In the aftermath of an accident, a victim can be left to wonder how to deal with expensive medical bills and a loss of wages from missing work over a crash that was someone else’s fault. If the accident proved fatal, the family left behind may have to face the expenses of a funeral after losing the financial support the victim would have provided from his or her job.

A family left without a beloved relative due to the negligence of a driver will be coping with a tragedy and at the same time may have to also consider filing a claim against the driver responsible.  This is called a wrongful death claim.

California law protects families who lose a loved one in an accident. Certain family members are allowed to sue in a wrongful death case against the at-fault driver to try to recover the financial and emotional damages in the aftermath of a tragic loss.  The spouse or domestic partner can file the lawsuit, children of the deceased can also file the claim or have the case filed on their behalf.

When victims survive their injuries in an accident they can also file a claim against the responsible driver’s insurance company.

It’s important to remember that If you were injured in a traffic accident California allows you up to two years to file a claim.  If the victim died as a result of the accident, the family of the victim has up to two years to file starting on the date the victim passed away. It is not recommended that you wait the full two years.  A claim should be filed as soon as possible to make it easier to collect evidence, contact witnesses, and gather documents to build a strong case.
