Sacramento County, CA — On the evening of Tuesday, November 3, 2026, a collision resulted in one man losing his life and two other adults and a toddler being injured, according to ABC10, with additional details from KCRA.
At approximately 6:50 PM, the California Highway Patrol responded to the fatal accident at Alta Mesa and Boessow roads, in a rural area east of Galt.
According to investigators, a Honda Pilot was traveling northbound on Alta Mesa Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Boessow. Unfortunately, the turn brought the Pilot into the path of a Chevy Silverado traveling southbound.
The impact left the driver of the Pilot with fatal injuries, and emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. His two passengers, a 32-year-old woman and a 2-year-old child, sustained major injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Silverado was also injured in the crash and hospitalized.
Further details of this accident have not been released, including the identities of those involved and whether or not driver impairment played a role. This is an ongoing investigation.
California Car Accidents: Wrongful Death and Personal Injury Claims
California law operates on the principle of comparative negligence, which holds that responsibility for an accident can be shared among multiple parties. Fault is therefore not an all-or-nothing proposition.
If the driver of the Silverado or some other party is found at least partially negligent in the crash, the family of the Pilot driver may have grounds for a wrongful death claim. Similarly, the driver of the Silverado may have grounds for a personal injury claim if the Pilot driver is found to have acted negligently. However, any settlement from either may be reduced if their own negligence is also found to have played a role. The Pilot passengers, though, may have grounds for personal injury claims whether their own driver or the other driver was negligent.
A wrongful death claim can provide the family of the deceased with compensation for funeral expenses and the loss of support and companionship. Meanwhile, a personal injury claim can help to recover economic damages, like medical expenses and lost wages, with consideration for non-economic damages like pain and suffering.
