Salinas, CA — On Halloween night, Saturday, October 31, 2026, Gustavo Patricio Santiago, 22, of Watsonville, lost his life in a single-vehicle rollover collision, according to KSBW.
At approximately 11:36 PM, the California Highway Patrol responded to the accident, which took place on Highway 101, slightly north of Sanborn Road, part of a busy commercial hub in South Salinas.
According to investigators, Santiago was driving a GMC Acadia SUV northbound on Highway 101, approaching Sanborn Road. For reasons yet to be determined, the SUV left the roadway and overturned after striking a tree and a road sign.
Emergency responders declared Santiago dead at the scene. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office released his identity later.
Investigators have not yet determined whether the influence of drugs or alcohol played a part in the fatal accident. The investigation is ongoing.
