Sacramento, CA — In the early hours of Friday, October 30, two vehicles fled the scene after a collision in which a pedestrian lost his life, according to FOX40.
Around 12:34 AM, the California Highway Patrol received reports of a person lying in the roadway on Florin Road, west of 55th Street, in a retail area near Golden State Highway.
Emergency responders found the man deceased, with evidence suggesting he had been struck by a vehicle.
According to investigators, the pedestrian was in the number one lane of Florin Road when one vehicle hit him and then another. Both vehicles fled the scene. Neither has been identified.
South Sacramento CHP asks that anyone with information regarding the collision come forward. This is an ongoing investigation.
Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Collisions and Wrongful Death Claims
If the vehicles involved in this fatal pedestrian crash are identified, the family of the pedestrian who lost his life may have grounds for a wrongful death claim against one or both drivers. A wrongful death claim can provide compensation for damages such as funeral expenses and the loss of support and companionship provided by the deceased.
Should negligence on the part of the pedestrian himself be found to have contributed to the accident as well, any settlement may be reduced. But that would not bar his family from receiving partial compensation.
In some hit-and-run cases, those responsible escape justice. The victim’s family may then have other options available to receive compensation, which a wrongful death attorney can help them explore.
