Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run on Ellis St in San Francisco; Suspect Arrested on Treasure Island

San Francisco, CA — In the early hours of Sunday, October 25, 2026, a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run, and the suspect was arrested soon after, according to KRON.

At approximately 1:06 AM, officers with the San Francisco Police Department responded to reports of a pedestrian accident in the 800 block of Ellis Street in the Little Saigon area east of Highway 101/Van Ness Avenue.

SFPD found a man who had sustained life-threatening injuries at the accident site. After emergency responders provided medical assistance, he was given transportation to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Although the driver involved in the fatal hit-and-run had fled the scene, investigators were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle on Treasure Island. The woman with the vehicle had reportedly been stopped by the California Highway Patrol for an unrelated traffic violation. SFPD informed CHP that the suspect was believed to be connected with the fatal pedestrian hit-and-run, which established probable cause to support arresting her.

The woman was booked into San Francisco County Jail under suspicion of homicide, and the vehicle was processed for evidence. The suspect’s identity has not been released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Runs in California and Wrongful Death Claims

California law expects drivers to exercise a heightened duty of care toward nearby pedestrians, including making every effort to avoid a collision. Should a driver strike a pedestrian, drivers are required to stay with the injured victim, help them to find medical assistance, and cooperate with law enforcement. Failure to do so may be charged as a felony.

Regardless of the outcome of any criminal proceedings, the deceased pedestrian’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim with the suspect’s insurance provider. A wrongful death claim can provide compensation for damages such as funeral expenses and the loss of companionship and support.
