Head-On Crash Kills 1, Injures 2 at Wheeler Ridge Rd, Creekside Dr near Lamont

Bakersfield, CA — On the evening of Friday, October 9, 2026, a head-on collision resulted in two drivers sustaining injuries and a passenger losing his life, according to KBAK.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the fatal crash, which involved a pickup truck and SUV, took place at approximately 6:44 PM on Wheeler Ridge Road near Creekside Drive, in a rural area close to Creekside Airport south of Lamont.

According to investigators, a 2012 Toyota Tacoma driven by an Arvin man was traveling southbound on Wheeler Ridge Road, approaching Creekside Drive at an undetermined speed.

At that same time, a 2016 Honda CR-V driven by an unidentified woman and carrying a male passenger in the right-front seat was traveling northbound on Wheeler Ridge Road, approaching the Toyota, also at an undetermined rate of speed.

Then, CHP reports that the Toyota allegedly made an unsafe turning movement. This apparently caused the driver to lose control of the Toyota and cross a broken yellow line into oncoming traffic, where it collided head-on with the Honda.

The force of the impact injured both drivers. Upon their arrival, emergency medical personnel pronounced the Honda passenger dead at the scene.

The CHP suspects driver impairment to have played a role in this fatal accident. They ask that any of the public who may have information pertinent to this investigation contact their Bakersfield Area office.

Fatal Accidents in Bakersfield and Wrongful Death Claims

If the driver of the Toyota is found to have been impaired and is convicted of Driving Under the Influence, he may be considered to have committed “negligence per se.” This means that by having violated a traffic safety law, he will have met the legal definition of negligence.

Regardless of the outcome of criminal proceedings, the Honda driver may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim with the Arvin man’s insurance provider. A personal injury claim can provide compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages related to the accident.

The family of the Honda driver’s passenger may also have grounds for a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death claim can provide grieving families with compensation for damages such as funeral expenses and the loss of companionship and support provided by the deceased.
