Davis, CA — On the morning of October 7, 2026, a Jeep was discovered partially submerged in a canal with the driver inside having lost their life, according to FOX40, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
California Highway Patrol first received reports of the fatal accident near Country Road 105 and Country Road 29 and the Davis Wastewater Treatment Plant at 7:36 AM.
Officers arriving at the crash site discovered a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee with burn damage and the driver within the vehicle deceased. The condition of the driver’s body did not initially allow for determining the age and sex of the victim.
Heavy-duty tow services were requested to extract the Jeep, and the Office of Emergency Services was notified due to the presence of gasoline and possibly other miscellaneous automotive fluids leaking into the waterway, which is near the Davis Wetlands.
After examining physical evidence at the site of the crash, investigators believe that, as it approached the bridge, the Jeep veered right for unknown reasons. This caused the Jeep to miss the bridge and crash into the far bank of the canal.
CHP is continuing to investigate what factors may have led to the crash and identify the driver who lost their life in this fatal accident.
