Fresno, CA — On the evening of Wednesday, September 30, 2026, a rear-end collision in which DUI is suspected to have played a role left a driver injured and led to the arrest of Cameron Robertson, 40, according to ABC30.
According to the Fresno Police Department, the accident took place just before 10:00 PM at the intersection of Herndon Avenue, a major multi-lane thoroughfare running east to west, and Van Ness Boulevard, in a residential neighborhood of north Fresno.
Authorities have stated that Robertson was allegedly driving at a high rate of speed when, for reasons still unknown, he rear-ended another vehicle. The force of the impact caused the driver of the other vehicle to lose consciousness. He reportedly woke to find himself pinned inside his vehicle before being extracted by emergency responders, who provided him with transport to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Responding officers detected signs of intoxication in Robertson and arrested him on suspicion of having been driving under the influence.
The identity of the victim has not been made available at the time of reporting. This is an ongoing investigation.
California DUI Law
Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”
Fresno DUI Accidents and Personal Injury Claims
Should Robertson be convicted of driving under the influence, he may be determined to have committed “negligence per se,” which means that, by violating a traffic law, he would be automatically considered to have been negligent in his duty of care to his fellow drivers. If that were to happen, it could increase his portion of liability for the victim’s injuries under California’s comparative negligence law.
The driver struck by Robertson may have grounds for a personal injury claim. A personal injury claim allows those who are the victims of the negligence of other parties to receive compensation for damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
