Union City, CA – On the morning of Friday, September 11, 2026, a two-vehicle collision resulted in the death of Abby Baca, 14, according to KRON.
The Union City Police Department reports that the accident took place around 8:04 AM at Alvarado-Niles Road and Decoto Road, a busy commercial intersection in central Union City.
Authorities said Baca was seated in the front passenger seat of a Mazda sedan when it collided with a large commercial box truck. She sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a local trauma center, where she died three days later.
The drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
A GoFundMe created by Baca’s cousin is seeking donations for funeral costs and other unexpected expenses while the family supports Baca’s siblings through their grief.
An investigation into what caused the collision remains underway. Neither driver has been publicly identified. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information regarding the events leading up to it is asked to contact the Union City Police Department.
