San Jose, CA – On the evening of Thursday, September 10, 2026, a pedestrian hit-and-run resulted in a woman losing her life near the Meadow Fair neighborhood, according to KRON.
The San Jose Police Department reports that the accident took place just before 9:00 PM in the area of Rigoletto Drive and King Road, a residential intersection on the city’s east side.
Authorities said the woman was struck by a vehicle while in the area. She was rushed to the hospital, where she later died. The driver fled the scene in the involved vehicle.
No information about the suspect or vehicle had been released, and the pedestrian’s identity was not immediately released. The investigation remains ongoing.
San Jose Hit-and-Run Accidents and Wrongful Death Claims
California law requires drivers involved in any collision to stop, render aid, and remain at the scene to cooperate with law enforcement. A driver who flees the scene of a fatal crash may face criminal prosecution in addition to civil liability, and may be considered to have committed negligence per se, increasing their share of liability in the collision.
Because so little information about the suspect or vehicle has been released so far, witness accounts and any available surveillance or dashcam footage from the neighborhood are likely to be critical in identifying the driver responsible.
The family of the deceased may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim, which can provide compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, loss of consortium, and other damages related to the fatal accident.
