Stevenson Blvd Crash near Marietta Dr Kills Pedestrian, 60, in Fremont

Fremont, CA – In the early hours of Monday, September 8, 2026, a collision resulted in the death of a 60-year-old pedestrian, marking the city’s eighth traffic fatality of the year, according to KRON.

The Fremont Police Department reports that the accident took place around 4:15 AM on Stevenson Boulevard just west of Marietta Drive, a roadway near John F. Kennedy High School that runs through a mixed residential and commercial corridor in central Fremont.

Authorities said the pedestrian was walking eastbound on Stevenson Boulevard near the center median when the front left portion of a car struck them. The driver remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation. Alcohol impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the pedestrian before the incident to contact the Fremont Police Department Traffic Unit. The identity of the deceased had not been publicly released at the time of reporting.

Fremont Pedestrian Accidents and Wrongful Death Claims

California law requires drivers to remain alert for pedestrians at all times, including those walking near a center median rather than within a marked crosswalk. Initial investigations do not always capture every factor relevant to civil liability, and a closer review can sometimes reveal issues such as inadequate street lighting, driver distraction, or excessive speed that were not the focus of the police department’s traffic investigation.

Under California’s comparative negligence law, even if the pedestrian’s position near the median is found to have contributed to the crash, the family may still be entitled to pursue compensation if any degree of negligence on the part of the driver played a role. A wrongful death claim can provide the family with compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, loss of consortium, and other damages related to the fatal accident.
