Hit-and-Run Kills Woman Repairing Bicycle on Franklin Blvd near 48th Ave in Sacramento

Sacramento, CA – On the evening of Wednesday, September 2, 2026, a hit-and-run resulted in a woman performing bicycle repairs losing her life, according to FOX40.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 8:59 PM on Franklin Boulevard north of 48th Avenue.

Authorities said the woman had been riding her Schwinn bicycle with an attached trailer northbound on Franklin Boulevard within the southbound shoulder before stopping to repair a broken axle. As she worked on her bike, an unknown vehicle drifted to the right and struck her. As a result of the impact, she sustained fatal injuries. The driver continued southbound on Franklin Boulevard without stopping.

The woman was transported to a hospital, where she died from her injuries. Her boyfriend, who witnessed the incident, told officers the vehicle appeared to be an older model pickup truck. However, investigators found a right front wheel well liner and a piece of broken plastic at the scene associated with a 2014-2024 Infiniti Q50.

The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate and is asking anyone with information to contact the South Sacramento CHP office. The investigation remains ongoing.

Sacramento Hit-and-Run Accidents and Wrongful Death Claims

California law requires drivers involved in any collision to stop, render aid, and remain at the scene to cooperate with law enforcement. A driver who flees the scene of a fatal crash may face criminal prosecution in addition to civil liability, and may be considered to have committed negligence per se, increasing their share of liability in the collision.

If the driver of the Infiniti is identified, the physical evidence recovered at the scene, including the wheel well liner and broken plastic, could play a significant role in establishing liability in a civil claim, independent of any criminal case. The woman’s family may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim, which can provide compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, loss of consortium, and other damages related to the fatal accident.
