Bakersfield, CA – On the night of Wednesday, August 26, 2026, a collision involving an alleged hit-and-run driver resulted in injuries and a DUI arrest in east Bakersfield, according to KGET.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place just after 10:30 PM at the intersection of Niles Street and Mt. Vernon Avenue.
Authorities said a Toyota collided with a Kia in the intersection. Following the impact, the driver of the Toyota fled the scene on foot or in their vehicle, initiating a hit-and-run investigation. Officers located the Toyota driver a short time later. The driver of the Kia appeared to have suffered minor injuries in the impact and received medical attention.
CHP officers subsequently arrested the driver of the Toyota for driving under the influence and booked them into the Lerdo Jail. CHP has not released whether speed or mechanical failure were additional factors in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
