Elk Grove, CA – In the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, 2026, a fatal two-vehicle collision involving a farm tractor resulted in the death of a female driver, according to KCRA, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:38 AM near Kammerer Road and Promenade Parkway, just off Highway 99.
Authorities said the woman was driving a Tesla sedan when her vehicle crashed into the back of a grape harvester farm tractor for unknown reasons. As a result of the impact, both vehicles caught fire, causing parts of the vehicles to melt into the asphalt. Emergency medical personnel and the Sacramento County coroner responded to the scene, where the female driver was pronounced dead. The driver of the tractor was uninjured.
Fire crews extinguished the flames, though emergency personnel noted the Tesla’s battery continued smoking later into the morning. An evidence tow was requested for the Tesla, and a Landoll heavy-duty tow cleared the grape harvester. Sacramento County Roads was dispatched to inspect roadway damage caused by the fire before authorities reopened the intersection at approximately 10:27 AM.
CHP has not released whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, as those details remain under investigation.
