Bakersfield, CA – On the evening of Wednesday, August 19, 2026, a pedestrian collision resulted in the death of Matthew David Harper, 36, of Bakersfield, according to KGET.
The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around 9:20 PM in the 2000 block of Wible Road, just south of Ming Avenue.
Authorities said Harper was crossing Wible Road outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound. As a result of the impact, he was transported to Kern Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Kern County Coroner’s Office formally identified him following his death. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The investigation remains ongoing.
