Sacramento County, CA – In the early hours of Thursday, July 30, 2026, a single-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality after a driver struck a tree and the vehicle caught fire, according to KCRA, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 3:40 AM on Power Line Road between Del Paso Road and Garden Highway.
Authorities said the driver struck a tree, and the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames. A passing motorist reported the crash, initially unable to confirm whether the vehicle was occupied. Sacramento Fire Department responded to the scene. The driver died as a result of the crash.
A flatbed tow was requested for the vehicle. The roadway was closed while officers investigated before reopening at approximately 6:29 AM.
The cause of the crash had not been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
