Fresno, CA – On the evening of Friday, July 17, 2026, a collision with a vehicle resulted in the death of a Sunnyside High School student while he was riding an e-scooter to football practice, according to KSEE/KGPE.
The Fresno Police Department reports that the accident took place near Sunnyside High School at the intersection of Lane Avenue and Peach Avenue.
Authorities said the student was riding an e-scooter eastbound on Lane Avenue when he entered the intersection of Peach Avenue against a red light. A sedan traveling northbound on Peach Avenue struck him as he made his way through the intersection.
He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. According to his family, his death came the day before his 15th birthday.
Sunnyside High School is holding a balloon release in his honor on Wednesday at 5:30 PM. The investigation remains ongoing.
