Ione, CA – On the morning of Wednesday, July 22, 2026, a three-vehicle collision resulted in one fatality and left a 2-year-old and two other drivers hospitalized, according to FOX40.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 7:18 AM on Highway 104 north of Five Mile Drive.
Authorities said a Tesla was traveling northbound on Highway 104 when it crossed into the southbound lane, sideswiping a Honda traveling southbound before continuing and colliding head-on with a Cadillac. One person died as a result of the crash. A 2-year-old who was in the Tesla was transported to a hospital for evaluation, with the extent of injuries unknown at the time of reporting. The drivers of the Honda and Cadillac were also transported to a hospital with moderate injuries.
The reason the Tesla crossed into oncoming traffic remains under investigation. Roads were expected to remain closed for at least two hours, with drivers asked to expect delays and use alternate routes. The identity of the deceased had not been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
