Madera County, CA – In the early hours of Saturday, July 18, 2026, a rear-end collision with a big rig resulted in the deaths of a Fresno mother and her daughter, according to KSEE/KGPE.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 2:00 AM on Highway 152 at Road 14 ½.
Authorities said a 32-year-old Fresno man was driving a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia eastbound on Highway 152 at approximately 10 to 15 miles per hour with hazard lights activated due to engine difficulties. A black Honda driven by a 50-year-old Fresno woman, with her 17-year-old daughter seated in the right front passenger seat, struck the rear of the trailer and became wedged underneath it.
Following the impact, the truck driver moved to the right shoulder, unaware that the Honda remained trapped beneath the trailer. Both the mother and daughter died at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured. All parties were wearing seatbelts.
The identities of the mother and daughter had not been officially released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
