San Joaquin County, CA – On the morning of Saturday, June 27, 2026, a bicyclist hit-and-run resulted in the death of a cyclist and two dogs, and led to the arrest of Larry Page, 30, according to FOX40.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:18 AM on westbound Eight Mile Road east of Interstate 5, near Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park.
Authorities said the bicyclist, who had been towing a shopping cart and two dogs, was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Eight Mile Road before the driver fled the scene. The victim and both dogs were found with fatal injuries.
A medical examiner estimated the person had been dead for approximately four to 12 hours at the time of discovery. The suspect vehicle was identified as a silver or light gray 2011-2015 Ford Explorer.
Multiple agencies worked together to identify and locate the suspect vehicle, which investigators found bearing clear signs of involvement in the crash on Tuesday, July 14. Page was arrested and booked into San Joaquin County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. The vehicle was impounded as evidence.
CHP officials reaffirmed their commitment to holding accountable those who commit crimes on California roadways and encouraged anyone with information about suspicious activity to report it to law enforcement. The investigation remains ongoing.
San Joaquin County Hit-and-Run Accidents and Wrongful Death Claims
California law requires drivers involved in any collision to stop, render aid, and remain at the scene to cooperate with law enforcement. A driver who flees the scene of a fatal crash faces significant criminal exposure in addition to civil liability, and a driver who violates this duty may be considered to have committed negligence per se, increasing their share of liability in the collision.
Regardless of the outcome of the criminal case, the victim’s family may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death claim can provide the family with compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, loss of consortium, and other damages related to the fatal accident.
