Infant, 3 Adults Injured after Market St, Hebron Ave Hit-and-Run in Salinas

Salinas, CA – On the evening of Saturday, July 5, 2026, a 61-year-old Salinas man was arrested in connection with a multi-vehicle collision after he ran a red light, resulting in four people being injured, including an eight-month-old child, according to KSBW.

The Salinas Police Department reports that the accident took place at East Market Street and North Hebbron Avenue.

Authorities said the driver ran a red light at the intersection, causing a multi-vehicle crash before fleeing the scene. Officers located the damaged vehicle a short time later and attempted a traffic stop.

The driver continued a short distance before striking a minivan and coming to a stop. Four people were injured in the collisions, including an eight-month-old child.

Officers determined the driver was not under the influence, instead suspecting potential health issues as a factor. Following medical clearance, he was booked into the Monterey County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing.

Stop Sign Laws

California law requires drivers to come to a complete stop at a Stop sign (California Vehicle Code 22450). Drivers may only enter the intersection when it appears safe for all parties to do so (California Vehicle Code 21802).

California Hit-and-Run Laws

California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.

Personal Injury Claims

After a traffic accident, victims and their families often deal with unexpected financial burdens, such as medical bills, lost income, and, in the worst cases, burial costs. A personal injury claim allows accident victims to hold the at-fault party financially responsible for their costs of care.
