Dakota, Fruit Ave Hit-and-Run Kills Motorcyclist in Fresno

Fresno, CA – On the evening of Wednesday, July 2, 2026, a motorcyclist hit-and-run resulted in the death of a man in his 30s in central Fresno, according to ABC30.

The Fresno Police Department reports that the accident took place just after 9:00 PM at the intersection of Dakota and Fruit Avenues.

Authorities said a silver SUV was traveling eastbound on Dakota Avenue when the driver made a left turn to go northbound on Fruit Avenue, striking a motorcycle traveling westbound on Dakota Avenue.

Both the suspect vehicle and the motorcyclist reportedly had a green light at the time of the collision. The driver allegedly fled northbound on Fruit Avenue without stopping.

The rider was found lying in the middle of the intersection and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The intersection of Dakota and Fruit Avenues was closed for several hours while officers investigated the crash. The identity of the deceased had not been released at the time of reporting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fresno Police Department. The investigation remains ongoing.

California Hit-and-Run Laws

California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.

Wrongful Death Claim

Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide support to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of support for dependents of the deceased.
